Gensler Phoenix

Gensler Phoenix was my first full-scale commercial job. While working at Urban Plough, I had the pleasure of working with Gensler’s top architects and designers to design and build their workspace. The job included every aspect of what we do, including design, fabrication, installation, and project management. It was my first time as project lead and one which I’ll never forget.

The Challenge

Build a creative office for one of the world's largest architecture firms.

While working at Urban Plough, we had the incredible opportunity to work on the Gensler architecture firm’s office space. Our team managed every aspect, from millwork design to installation and project management, ensuring a seamless execution.

Throughout the office, we incorporated custom Oak furniture. Additionally, we designed and built 30 electronic sit/stand desks to promote a flexible and ergonomic work environment. This project demonstrated our ability to handle complex design challenges while creating functional and inspiring workspaces.

Kitchen

We created a fully outfitted kitchen with a modern and minimal aesthetic. A large island with massive amounts of storage also functions as a seating area. The island contains dual microwaves underneath a large onyx solid surface.

A separate wet bar with steel backsplash, incorporated dishwasher, water purification system and disposal reside underneath.

Two refrigerators hide behind matching doors in a completely flush enclosure, isolating them from the room and opening the space.

Sit/Stand Desks

One of the most exciting parts about working at Urban Plough was the use of linear actuators. Primarily Linak brand, which we used in many projects.

We manufactured nearly 30 electronic sit/stand desks for Gensler’s office allowing the staff enjoy working from their desks however they would like.

These desks were all part of a larger system, interconnected and discrete, keeping the inner workings hidden from view. This clever design kept the wires and hardware out of sight for a beautiful, minimal design.

Reading Cubbies

These cubbies, built into the wall, were super fun to build. They were created by a local upholsterer to match the red details in the building. A crimson laminate (Gensler logo color) was used under the cushion to protect against wear, while the cushions are affixed on their underside.

The red color and tie-dye effect of the velvet give the reading nook a very Stanley Kubrick vibe, which really serves as the eye-catching part of the entire project.

Whenever you can incorporate comfort and color to a project, it makes it more fun. These cubbies provide staff with a little escape whenever necessary.

Solid Oak Furniture

The best part of our job comes when we get to use hardwoods. It’s just a pleasure to work with and gets us back to focusing on where we started.

At our heart, we are woodworkers and nothing beats the real thing.

For Gensler, we produced a few hardwood components. Two large meeting tables in the front and middle of the space, as well as a receptionist desk at the front door. All pieces share the same modern details seen throughout the project but are based out of solid white oak.

Each base contains complex hidden geometry like channels for electrical, internet, and other utilities. At the same time, each piece is able to be serviced and opened without tools via hidden attachments. These extra details allow the furniture to be adaptable for future uses or upgrades to infrastructure without needing any extra tools.

We offer personalized attention and meticulous detail, transforming every project into a unique and high-quality experience
