A solid use case for residential furniture design is the ability to create a piece in a 3D environment and quickly adjust the dimensions of certain parts without sacrificing connections in the design. For instance, I have a built in cabinet, its fully designed in Fusion and the client comes to me and needs it to be 3/4″ wider to fit their space after a drywaller comes through. In the past, I would need to go through the design with a fine-tooth comb, adjusting things where necessary in order for everything to work correctly.
With parameters instead to measurements, I can quickly change the overall width of the unit, and everything inside adjusts automatically for me, allowing me to continue with other parts of the design instead of losing time and focus.
Why Use Fusion 360 for Parametric Design?
Fusion 360, developed by Autodesk, offers a seamless environment for creating and managing parametric models. Its intuitive interface and robust feature set make it accessible for both beginners and experienced designers. Many designers would use something like “grasshopper” for the Rhino environment, but it’s cumbersome and difficult to use. I personally prefer Fusion.
